Dallas, Texas –December 7, 2020 – Union Gospel Mission (UGM) Dallas gladly accepted the generous donation of over 70 coats from Discipleship Ministries Inc., a church located in Red Oak. The coats donated will be given to UGM Dallas residents to shield them from the cold as temperatures drop during winter months. Click for Photos

As a little girl in Louisiana, Denise Rogers, the pastor’s wife at Discipleship Ministries Inc., knew what it was like to go without a winter coat. As a single mother, her mom couldn’t always afford to provide a coat for the family. Sometimes they would receive hand-me-downs from family members. This experience created a passion within her to offer the warmth of a new winter coat to those less fortunate.

“We are extremely grateful for Mrs. Rogers and her church congregation’s heart for the homeless,” stated Bruce Butler, CEO of UGM Dallas. “Every time we are able to bless our residents with something like a coat, it reminds them that others care for them and want the best for them. It reminds them they are of great value.”

About the Union Gospel Mission Dallas

Established in 1949, Union Gospel Mission Dallas (the Mission) has been restoring lives through the Word of Jesus Christ.  This faith-based nonprofit organization supports individuals and families experiencing homelessness with shelter, food and clothing, as well as a Discipleship and recovery program, vocational job training and development, state-licensed child care services, medical care, transportation, substance abuse prevention, and transitional and permanent housing.

In 2019 the Mission assisted individuals in Dallas County by providing more than 194,749 nights of shelter and serving 586,551 meals.  UGM Dallas also houses 160 veterans in our men’s shelter each month who were previously homeless.  Forty-five percent of the clients who received service from UGM Dallas were first -time clients.    These men, women and children represent the living, breathing embodiment of the grace of change, and the Mission is committed to doing everything possible to transform lives and end homelessness one person at a timer.
