Dallas, Texas – April 20, 2023 UGM Dallas Center of Hope Women & Children’s Shelter residents and staff received a special gift from the Dallas Mavs Foundation. On Tuesday, a new minivan was presented to the homeless shelter by Chief Impact Officer & President of the Mavs Foundation, Katie Edwards, along with team mascot, Champ, MavsMan, the ManiAACs and the D-Town crew. The gift was received with much enthusiasm as it provides an additional means of transportation to assist the women who reside at the shelter with the ability to attend necessary medical appointments, job interviews and school functions for their children. “We are extremely grateful to the Mavs Foundation for blessing UGM Dallas Center of Hope Women & Children’s Shelter with the van,” stated Bruce Butler, CEO of UGM Dallas. “The Mavericks have made a huge impact on our city through their charitable donations and their desire to help those in our community who need help getting back on their feet.”
Mavs mascot, Champ, was onsite and interacted with the children and women who live at the homeless shelter and even made his way through the cafeteria line to enjoy time with the kids. UGM Dallas shared with Mavs Foundation representatives how the shelter served over 502,067 meals to homeless men, women and children in 2022.
“This was a big deal for our residents,” shared Patrice Denning, UGM Dallas Center of Hope Women’s Program Director. “Not only were the residents excited to be included in the Mavs Foundation program, but it reminded them that they are not a forgotten element of society. There is a whole city who wants the best for them and is cheering them on to find healing, to complete their education, to further their job skills training and to go out and make a difference in our beloved city.”
