Dallas, TX – December 5, 2019 Union Gospel Mission (UGM) Dallas was a flurry of activity over the Thanksgiving weekend as volunteers came out in large numbers to remind the homeless of Dallas that they are important, that others care about their well being and that there is hope for a better tomorrow. The residents at UGM Dallas Calvert Place Men’s Shelter received special encouragement as XFL Dallas and former NFL players had the opportunity to speak to the group encouraging them to “stay driven and reload” while keeping their faith in God strong. Players who spoke to the group included Akin Ayodele, #51 for the Dallas Cowboys, La Terrence Dunbar, whose daughter came to hear her dad, and Romby Bryant, former Canadian and NFL player. Former NFL Player and Super Bowl Champion, Isaiah Stanback, and former NFL scout, Bob Morris, led the players as they served lunch and shared stories with the men of their highs and lows during their football careers. There were smiles all around as the volunteers and shelter residents truly shared in the spirit of the Thanksgiving holiday. Click to Watch Video
“The support we received from XFL Dallas and all our volunteers was a great way to kick off the holiday season,” stated Bruce Butler, CEO of UGM Dallas. ” Between battling the weather and the loneliness, the holidays are a hard time physically and emotionally for the homeless community. Established in 1949, Union Gospel Mission Dallas (the Mission) has been restoring lives through the word of Jesus Christ.
