Volunteer Opportunities

Because we rely on volunteer workers to make all aspects of the Mission run smoothly, our goal is to provide opportunities that are best suited for most people.

Prayer Partner

We need constant prayer support!

Chapel Provider

Location: Calvert Place Men’s Shelter / Center of Hope Women & Children’s Shelter

Description: Share a message of God’s love.

Time: Men’s chapel hours are Monday through Sunday 7-8 p.m.Women’s Chapel hours are Monday through Sunday 7-8 p.m.

Qualifications: A mature Christian and member of a local church.

Directions: You must complete a volunteer application, photo release and volunteer waiver.

Complete and pass a background check. An interview and approval with the director of the facility is required.

Mentor

Location: Calvert Place Men’s Shelter / Center of Hope Women & Children’s Shelter

Description: Provide support to clients who are preparing to graduate.

Time: Typically Monday through Saturday between 8:30 a.m. to 5p.m.

Qualifications: A mature Christian and member of a local church.

Directions: Must complete a volunteer application and background check. An interview and approval with the director of the facility is required.

Chapel Service Sitters

Location: Center of Hope Women & Children’s Shelter

Description: As a chapel service sitter, you will engage the children with fun, developmentally-appropriate activities while their mothers attend service.

Time: Volunteers serve two hours at minimum Sunday through Saturday, at 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Qualifications: Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older. Previous experience working with children is preferred.

Directions: Must complete a volunteer application, photo release and volunteer waiver. Complete and pass a background check. An interview and approval with the director of the facility is required.

Teaching/Tutoring

Location: Calvert Place Men’s Shelter / Center of Hope Women & Children’s Shelter

Description: Adults and kids in life skills, academic lessons and more. We are looking for volunteers to assist clients with GED prep, job search, resume building and tutoring for children K-12. There are also ongoing opportunities within our library for research assistance to our clients as well as assisting in our computer lab.

Time: Typically, between 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for adults at both the Calvert Place Men’s Shelter and the Center of Hope Women & Children’s Shelter. Typically, between 6-7p.m. for K-12 tutoring.

Qualifications: Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older to serve at the Calvert Place Men’s Shelter. Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older to serve as a tutor at the Center of Hope Women & Children’s Shelter.

Directions: All volunteers 14 years of age or older must complete a volunteer application, photo release and volunteer waiver.

Special Events

Location: TBD

Description: As a Special Events volunteer, you will assist with registration, decorations, stuffi ng goodie bags, assisting the photographer, greeting and directing guests and more. Special events include the Annual William M. Thompson Golf Classic, the Thanksgiving and Praise Banquet, Vintage 10’s Project Vintage Runway Fashion Show and client graduations.

Time: Depending on the event times may vary.

Qualifications: Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older to serve.

Directions: All volunteers 14 years of age or older must complete a volunteer application, photo release and volunteer waiver. Volunteers will be contacted by the volunteer coordinator for further information.

Moms with Tots

Location: Center of Hope Women & Children’s Shelter

Description: Facilitate activities in a classroom environment with mothers and children of toddler age.

Time: Tuesdays from 6-7 p.m.

Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age or older.

Directions: Must complete a volunteer application, photo release and volunteer waiver. Complete and pass a background check. An interview and approval with the director of the facility is required.

Intake Assistant

Location:  3211 Irving Blvd., Dallas, TX  75247

Description: Administrative duties including light filing and data entry.

Time Frame: Monday thru Saturday, 8:00am to 4:00pm.

Qualifications: Volunteer must be 18 years of age or older.

Directions:  All will be required to complete a volunteer application, photo release and volunteer waiver.

Food Service

Location: Calvert Place Men’s Shelter / Center of Hope Women & Children’s Shelter

Description: Volunteers are responsible for assisting kitchen personnel in areas of need.

Food Preparation – Help prepare meals, for example, plate desserts, brew coffee, make iced tea, etc.

Food Serving– Help serve hot foods and keep the food line stocked.

Dining and Kitchen Area Cleaning – Duties may include mopping, sweeping, wiping tables, changing and emptying of trash receptacles and dish washing. Volunteers should be able to do some light lifting/unloading/moving food supplies; lift dishes to storage locations, determine cleanliness of dishes, trays, food contact surfaces and kitchen areas.

Time: Hours are from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at both Calvert Place Men’s Shelter and The Center of Hope Women and Children’s Shelter.

Qualifications:

Calvert Place Men’s Shelter

Volunteers must be 18 years or older to serve.

Center of Hope Women & Children’s Shelter

· All volunteers serving in food service must be 10 years of age or older.

· Volunteers 10-13 years of age can serve cold foods, desserts and drinks in the dining room.

· Volunteers 14 years of age or older can join the adults in the kitchen to help serve hot foods and keep the food line stocked.

Directions: All volunteers, 14 years of age or older, must complete a volunteer application, photo release and volunteer waiver. Volunteers will be given instructions from the food service staff upon arrival.

Dress Code: It is preferred that jeans or slacks are worn by volunteers serving in the kitchen. Please no running shorts or leggings/tights as pants. Shirts must have sleeves, an appropriate neckline and cover the midriff.

Please wear closed toed shoes (no sandals). We will provide aprons, gloves and hair coverings.

Clerical/Office

Location: Calvert Place Men’s Shelter / Center of Hope Women & Children’s Shelter

Description: May include light filing and data entry.

Time: Typically Monday through Saturday between 8:30 a.m. and 5p.m.

Qualifications: Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.

Directions: All volunteers 14 years of age or older must complete a volunteer application, photo release and volunteer waiver.

Guest Service Volunteer

Location: Center of Hope Women & Children’s Shelter

Description: Duties include greeting guests, helping clients with applications, checking in bags, distributing mail and meal tickets, answering phones and helping mothers get checked into their rooms.

Time: Guest service volunteers may serve any hours from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the days of their choice.

Qualifications: Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older to serve.

Directions: Must complete a volunteer application, photo release and volunteer waiver. Complete and pass a background check.

Chaplain Assistants

Location: Center of Hope Women & Children’s Shelter

Description: Assist chaplains before and during service. Duties may include printing sermon documents, audience control, etc.

Time: Volunteers serve two hours at minimum Sunday through Saturday, at 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Qualifications: Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older to serve.

Directions: Must complete a volunteer application, photo release and volunteer waiver. Complete and pass a background check.

Child Development Center Assistant

Location: Center of Hope Women & Children’s Shelter

Description: Assist the child development teachers in the classroom, answer phones and relieve teachers while they are on their break.

Time: CDC volunteers may serve any hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the days of their choice.

Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age or older.

Directions: Must complete a volunteer application, photo release and volunteer waiver. Complete and pass an extensive background check. An interview and approval with the director of the facility is required.

Computer Learning Center Assistant

Location:  3211 Irving Blvd., Dallas, TX  75247

Description:  Individual is needed to monitor the lab and answer basic user questions.  Having a background in Excel and Office Outlook is a plus and will be most useful.

Time Frame: Monday thru Saturday, 8:00am to 8:00pm.

Qualifications: Male volunteers are preferred.  Must be 18 years of age or older.

Directions:  All will be required to complete a volunteer application, photo release and volunteer waiver.

Library Assistant

Location:  3211 Irving Blvd., Dallas, TX  75247

Description: To open and monitor our library. Duties include assisting guest with check out process and biblical research.

Time Frame: Monday thru Saturday, 8:00am to 4:00pm.

Qualifications: Volunteer must be 18 years of age or older.
