Because we rely on volunteer workers to make all aspects of the Mission run smoothly, our goal is to provide opportunities that are best suited for most people.

Food Service

Location: Calvert Place Men’s Shelter / Center of Hope Women & Children’s Shelter

Description: Volunteers are responsible for assisting kitchen personnel in areas of need.

Food Preparation – Help prepare meals, for example, plate desserts, brew coffee, make iced tea, etc.

Food Serving– Help serve hot foods and keep the food line stocked.

Dining and Kitchen Area Cleaning – Duties may include mopping, sweeping, wiping tables, changing and emptying of trash receptacles and dish washing. Volunteers should be able to do some light lifting/unloading/moving food supplies; lift dishes to storage locations, determine cleanliness of dishes, trays, food contact surfaces and kitchen areas.

Time: Hours are from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at both Calvert Place Men’s Shelter and The Center of Hope Women and Children’s Shelter.

Qualifications:

Calvert Place Men’s Shelter

Volunteers must be 18 years or older to serve.

Center of Hope Women & Children’s Shelter

· All volunteers serving in food service must be 10 years of age or older.

· Volunteers 10-13 years of age can serve cold foods, desserts and drinks in the dining room.

· Volunteers 14 years of age or older can join the adults in the kitchen to help serve hot foods and keep the food line stocked.

Directions: All volunteers, 14 years of age or older, must complete a volunteer application, photo release and volunteer waiver. Volunteers will be given instructions from the food service staff upon arrival.

Dress Code: It is preferred that jeans or slacks are worn by volunteers serving in the kitchen. Please no running shorts or leggings/tights as pants. Shirts must have sleeves, an appropriate neckline and cover the midriff.

Please wear closed toed shoes (no sandals). We will provide aprons, gloves and hair coverings.

Special Projects

Location: Calvert Place Men’s Shelter / Center of Hope Women & Children’s Shelter

Description: May include painting, cleaning, organizing, landscaping and other duties.

Time: Times may vary but typical hour would be Monday through Sunday between 8:30am and 2:30pm.

Qualifications: Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older. Accommodations for groups with children under the age of 14 years old can be made.

Donation Drives

Description: Organize a donation drive for: paper goods, clothing, towels, twin sheets, canned goods, shoes, rain gear, toiletries, coats, scrubs, etc.

Special Events

Location: TBD

Description: As a special events volunteer, you will assist with registration, decorations, stuffing goodie bags, assisting the photographer, greeting and directing guests and more. Special events include the annual William M. Thompson Golf Classic, The Thanksgiving and Praise Banquet, Vintage 10’s Project Vintage Runway Fashion Show and client graduations.

Time: Depending on the event times may vary.

Qualifications: Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older to serve.
