Ongoing Transitional Support

Our support doesn’t end with a successfully completed transformation program. We also offer ongoing educational and work training assistance, transitional and permanent housing and more.

We provide services to our community in the form of a thrift shop, print shop and auto repair program.

Transitional Living
UGM owns and manages four transitional living sites. Two are apartment complexes, one is a residential home in Carollton, that has been converted to accommodate four disciples (each with their own bedroom), and the original Calvert Bible Church in South Dallas, reconfigured to accommodate five (each with their own bedroom). The Cimarron Apartments in East Dallas is a 43-unit complex combining one and two bedroom units. The recently purchased River Pointe Apartments, in North Lake Highlands, is a 34-unit complex.

As disciples work their way toward independence, it is a tremendous help to have housing at a greatly reduced rate. After approximately two years, a disciple can make the transitional living site permanent by agreeing to pay market rent for the space.

Social Enterprise and Work Training Programs
Work is very important to the disciples making their way through the rehabilitation program. Many of the daily jobs throughout the Mission are done by disciples. These include food preparation and serving, custodial work, operating the Mission’s telephone switchboard, maintenance throughout the Mission, assisting in the daily intake at The Bridge, and supervision of overnight clients. Disciples are also available to the public for outside contract services. Contracting these services helps support and encourage the disciples, as well as Mission staff.

  • Auto Program
This on-site automotive program allows disciples to get much needed trade experience refurbishing donated cars before the Mission re-sells them. Several disciples have received valuable training, and one of the men in our Veteran’s program has found a full-time job as a mechanic. Donate your car; call Stacey Morgan at 214-637-6117, ext.115
  • Thrift Store
The Mission’s 55,000 square foot thrift store in Irving, Texas, is a site where many in our discipleship programs find jobs during and after graduation. The store, open 9 a.m. – 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and located at Hwy 183 and Story Road, sells donated merchandise to the public. The proceeds from the sales benefit the ministries of UGM.
  • Print and Mail Shop
Run by Vincent Brown, a graduate of the Mission’s Discipleship Program, the mail and print shop serves as the sorting and mailing apparatus for the Mission. The UGM Mail Shop also provides mailing services to the public. These include processing mail lists, printing and stuffing envelopes, and delivering outside mail to the post office.
  • General Services
Ray Smith, a graduate of the Mission’s Discipleship Program, manages General Services. This area of the ministry provides a variety of labor assistance to individuals, businesses and churches in the community. The most common service is lawn care. Many disciples get to work on one of Ray’s “crews,” while finishing the program. For more information call Ray Smith at 214-287-3223.
