The Union Gospel Mission is a faith-based homeless shelter providing food, beds and clothing to the homeless men, women and children in Dallas County.
In 2011, we provided these services to 4,009 unduplicated men, women and children.
Calvert Place Men’s Shelter – Serves Men Age 18+
Intake is done at The Bridge, the city’s homeless services provider, 1818 Corsicana Street, one block west of the Farmer’s Market in downtown Dallas, and takes place between 4:30-6:30 daily, seven days a week. Clients are bussed to Calvert Place during the late afternoon to early evening, and bussed back to The Bridge in the morning. When a client goes through intake, he is assigned a particular bed. That same bed is his for as long as he stays at the shelter (capacity is 335 beds). The men’s facility has secure lockers, where clients are allowed to store some of their possessions. Services include meals, bed, clothing, showers, health clinic and daily chapel service. Location: 3211 Irving Blvd., Dallas 75247, 214-637-6117, help@ugmdallas.org.

The Crystal Child Development Center (CDC)
The Crystal Child Development Center (CDC) is an on-site child care center for children from birth to kindergarten, whose mothers reside at the Center of Hope. Children in the CDC learn about the abundance of God’s love through our Christian-based curriculum. Bible stories and basic skills, such as recognizing colors, shapes, letters and numbers, are taught daily. Preschoolers learn counting, writing letters, and how to cooperate and play with others. All children in the CDC ultimately learn the importance of God’s love in their life.

Each of our two main shelters has an on-site, free medical clinic, which is available to both clients and disciples. The clinics are under the supervision of UT-Southwestern School of Medicine and are directed by UGM Medical Director, Patti Pagels, a licensed PA and a member of the faculty at the school. The clinic at COH opened in November, 2008. The Calvert Place clinic opened its doors in March, 2010. Both clinics have regular hours of service.
In February of 2009, the Union Gospel Mission became a recipient of the Veteran’s Administration Per Diem Program. Through this program, administered by the Dallas VA, veterans who are “formerly homeless or in danger of becoming homeless” are sent to the Mission to live in a transitional living environment for up to two years. UGM is approved to have up to 40 individuals living here at any one time. Since the beginning of the program, there has been between 34-40 veterans living at the Mission at all times.
