The competition is on! The students of FOCUS Learning Academy, located in Oak Cliff, Texas, participated with TWO MEN and a TRUCK moving company (TMT) in their Movers for Moms Community Service Project. From Friday, April 1 to Thursday, May 5th, the students collected toiletries, hairstyling products, pillows, blankets, towels, and such, to donate to the Center of Hope and to Genesis Women’s Shelter on Mother’s Day in May.

The students learned about this project at a special assembly held at the school. Center of Hope chaplain, Irenee O’Reilly, and disciples, Chantal Kanku and Toni Baker, represented UGM at the assembly. Dave Totzke, local TMT owner, and Jessica Russell, TMT Marketing Manager, both encouraged the students to work hard to collect enough items to fill the TMT moving boxes they would supply to the school for the competition. Dr. Joyce Kidd, President of the Dallas chapter of The Links, Inc., shared that they would work with the students to collect items as well.

TMT has been doing this for four years in other states, but is just starting the program here in the Metroplex, explained Jessica Russell, TMT Marketing Manager. Since TMT was started by two women, the founders wanted to give back to mothers, and came up with the Movers for Moms project. The purpose of the program is to give goods and gifts to needy moms who may not get gifts otherwise.

TMT learned about the Center of Hope through employees who have volunteered at the shelter. The hope is that this project will be successful so that more schools will participate next year and more shelters can be helped.
