The Union Gospel Mission serves the homeless women and children of Dallas with two facilities.
The Center of Hope (COH) is our shelter and Discipleship Program site exclusively for single women with children. The COH has a capacity of 234. Intake is at COH Monday-Friday, 9:30 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. On Saturday, Sunday and holidays we do intake from10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Valid government issued ID is required for all women. Mothers must provide birth certificates for all children. Single women with children can stay for up to 90 days, unless they have entered the Discipleship Program before then. The Center of Hope has a state approved Child Development Center on-site which serves our children from birth through kindergarten. This allows the women in the Discipleship Program to be free to attend classes and take care of their chores. Our client population is free to look for jobs or get outside medical attention while knowing their children are in a secure, nurturing environment.
The Center of Hope serves three meals daily while providing a library, learning center, life skill classes, a chapel and medical clinic on-site.
UGM River Pointe apartment complex, located in far northeast Dallas, opened its doors, on January 11, 2011, to its first group of clients, disciples and transitional living single women without children. The current capacity is 50, with many of the units still occupied by market renters who had leases when UGM purchased the property. Intake for this facility is also done at the Center of Hope, Monday-Friday, 9:30 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. On Saturday, Sunday and holidays we do intake from10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Again, valid government issued id is required for all women. Single women without children may stay up to 90 days, unless they have entered the Discipleship Program before then. Each unit, formerly a condominium, is set up to accommodate up a minimum of four single women. All services available at COH are duplicated at UGM River Pointe. These include a daily chapel service and life skill classes. The Mission provides transportation back and forth between the two facilities for shared meetings, medical services, access to our library and learning center.
